Having studied flute in my school days and later taken up the saxophone in my 20’s I have played in many large and small bands /orchestras, set up my own business teaching both instruments, successfully taking pupils through their music grades and introducing them to many diverse styles of music ranging from classical to swing, jazz and blues, funk and pop.

I have played in many bands covering all genres of music over the years ranging from traditional big swing bands such as the Mid West Big Band (currently their lead Alto player) Jay Cee Big Band, Cotswold Big Band and JJ Swing Band, enjoying the excitement of producing the traditional big band sounds, and enjoying tunes from the American song-book and Jazz and Swing Standards that are still ever popular today.

I also love the intimacy and diversification of the small jazz groups and trios which allow more freedom for personal interpretation and improvisation and have played much trad jazz with many small groups which allow entertaining at smaller venues/jazz clubs/pubs/restaurants with more solo opportunity. This subsequently lead to moving into solo sax work and setting up a small trio called Breeze Saxophone, and I have performed at functions ranging from corners of pubs, to weddings, corporate events, parties and fetes.

I also occasionally play for local theatre covering shows such as Threepenny opera; Fiddler on the roof; Mikado; Annie and much more in Cheltenham Playhouse/Roses Theatre Tewkesbury / Stroud and other venues. I have also appeared in the Cheltenham/ Marlborough /Upton-on-Severn/Forest of Dean jazz & music festivals.

Now moving into a new genre for me – to join Bandantree as their Sax player will challenge me in a new and exciting direction. Already having joined them for a few gigs, its turning out to be great fun and upbeat taking me back to the 80’s as we play the Ska/rock/pop tunes that I grew up with and which have been taking the festival world by storm as all these original bands regularly tour the festival circuit enabling a new revival of and increasing following of these ever popular songs.
